Pigs CC qualify for club championship

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009

It’s confirmed. The Pigs CC will field a third team for the first time in its history this season. Welcome to the Pigs, Weapons! For the purposes of reporting on this website, at least, the new team will be referred to as Team Black. The Black team then will enter the competition in C grade. C grade has 9 teams in it this year including Central CC who finished last in B reserve last year which team Brown beat fairly easily. No other team the Pigs played last year is in C grade.

The Brown team will play this season in B grade after finishing 5th in B reserve last year. A nominal promotion, along with many of the teams who played B reserve last year, including; West Pymble CC (who finished 3rd), Kirribilli Crusaders CC (who finished 2nd) and NSCC (4th). Also in B grade this year are the Dreggs, who the Pink team played last year in B grade.

And finally team Pink (2nd in B grade last season) also get the nominal promotion – for them to A reserve. They will play the Wanderers who won B reserve last year, along with a number familiar of B grade foes; Cammeray (3rd), Kirribilli Crusaders CC (1st), North Shore CC (4th) and the Bonnons/Kids (5th).

Because it’s relevant now maybe we should know something about how the NSCA Club Championship works.

Quote NSCA rule 21:

g) The Club Championship shall be open all clubs that enter 3 or more teams into the competition and calculated using the formula below:
Points = {∑ (Pi * Mi / Ni)} / T

Where:
Pi = Points for a particular team in a club
Mi = Multiplier for the specific grade
Ni = Number of games played by that specific team
T = total number of teams for that club

The multipliers for each grade will be:
A: 20
AR: 18
B: 16
BR/B2: 14
C: 12
CR: 10
One day only grade: 12

Ooooooookaaay then. Another classic incomprehensible NSCA calculation. Actually, once you work it out, it’s not a bad system. Each grade has a multiplier so that the games for the teams in a higher grade have more weighting in the Club Championship. The winning club is the one with the highest average points after the weightings have been applied.

Fixtures should be up in the next couple of days so keep checking back – click the fixtures link on the right to see.

Pigs have weapons?

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009

I call her 'precious', OINK!I don’t want to jump the gun, but sometimes you just have to shoot from the hip – here it is; big (possibly pre-emptive, eventuating in nothing but a misfire) news: Pigs Cricket Club could enter the 2009/2010 season with three teams! This will be the second expansion of the club after the introduction of a second team in 2006. Could be! Could be the second expansion – I’ve got to be careful with my words or I’ll be pistol whipped.

The extra players come from a team who played in the NSCA competition a few years ago as the Weapons. Our esteemed treasurer and chief organiser, Paddy, is currently in negotiations with the Weapons’ captain to possibly – possibly – come to terms.

Having three teams would qualify the Pigs for the club championship for the first time. Now, caveat caveat caveat – all this could end up amounting in nothing which means that all I’ve ended up doing is shooting myself in the foot. Stay tuned for confirmation/foot injury verification before Friday.

Siteinfo

Anybody paying any attention will have seen changes to the banner and colours recently – probably noticed them 2 seconds before you started reading this post. There’s a small number of things what require tinkering but now all the “hard” stuff has been done.  It’s up and ready to use.

For those who wish to upload photos throughout the season you can do so at our photo site.  You can create an account and upload photo’s individually.  If you have so many pics that uploading them individually seems painful send them in a zip file to me (Barcs) or Brad and we can upload them to the site.

Ahem… Hello? Is this thing on???

Thursday, September 10th, 2009

Oh Yes! Hello and welcome to the new Pigs Cricket Club website for 2009/2010!  (Hooray).  This site will contain all the match reviews, photos, PCC event info and will cater to all your Pig related needs*.  Now, at this stage the site may look a bit incomplete.  There are sections missing and whatnot.  But hey, there is a good reason for that.  And that is, because at this stage, the site is largely in actual fact a wee bit incomplete.  Additionally, and perhaps more significantly, I don’t really know what I’m doing.

The old site fell into disuse within the Pigs community – instead it became a central hotbed for people to come to buy Viagra and peruse pornography.  While I personally found the latter appealing it was generally agreed among the powers that be that it was not an appropriate thing for the Pigs Cricket Club to endorse.  So, I’m trying to correct the order of the universe by:

  1. Making it easy for contributors to post match reviews and Pig related musings
  2. Allow anybody to post comments without signing in – it should be easy so as to encourage Pigs to use it
  3. Prevent untold quantities of spam
  4. To use numbered bullet points as often as possible**

Eventually, if I haven’t accidentally deleted them, I will include all the good links from the old website plus I’ll shortly be sending out a new questionnaire for a Pig Player Profile.  There is a lot of scope to upgrade the look of this blog too.  It’s possible to put photo’s in the background and customise the position of the links and various things like that.  But, as I said, I don’t really know what I’m doing yet.  I have to learn how.  And the time spent doing any of that is directly proportional to how much use this site gets.

Pigs – this is where I need your help.  Please leave a comment.  I think your first comment will be moderated, meaning that it won’t immediately be viewable on the site.  But subsequent posts using the same name and web address should not be, meaning they will be***.  Hopefully it’s pretty easy, but if not let me know.  Basically, try it out.  Push buttons.  Leave feedback and request features… that kind of thing.  If you would like to post blog entries let me know and I will set you up.  Once set up it’s remarkably easy.

Brad, special message to you and anybody else who would like to post photos on the site.  On the right there are 3 links to potential places which are designed to host photo’s on websites.  Please test them and let me know which one you’d prefer.  Also you can post photo’s directly in the blog but that doesn’t have any album concept so they may be better.  Alternatively Brad, if you’re willing slash able, you could set up a page on your own website for the pigs which can be linked from this site.  Food, in the form of words, for thought, not consumption.

*may not cater to all your Pig related needs.
**and asterisks
***Ummm, yes – I think that’s correct.
