Ladies and Gentlemen,
Pig number 40 who first attended uponst a Pigs game (in 2001) is Piers Bayl-Smith. After a long long lonngggggggggggg stay in the nervous nineties, he does this weekend become the 5th 6th person to play 100 games for the Pigs Cricket Club. Nicknamed the “Rock” for this stoic batting, Piers is one of only two persons to carry his bat through an innings. He is also only one of two persons to do it twice. Piers has the 5th 6th highest average of all time of Pigs that have played 100 games, or, more.
It was his rapid assent to the peak of the mountain of “most ducks for the pigs” that saw him shed his batting responsibilities to become a top flight seam up bowler. In fact, in 2006/7 season, he recorded the most wickets for the Pigs in that season. He has taken 44 wickets in all. Successes for the Pigs include his half-co-captaining of the Pigs maiden grand final win back in 2006. In 07/08 he was part of the premiership winning C Grade team before work, children, study tore him from the game on a full time basis. Congratulations Piersey and have a great game at Pig Park.
The statistics are now completely updated, which includes all the new C Graders, and recent new breakages of records for top scores in an innings. The batting averages remains the tighest fought race, with D Train finally qualifying by being dismissed 10 times, but, too many low recent scores (oh lordy this is going to bring a response re umpiring decisions) and his average has dropped to a poor 56 leaving Mr Century Boy Dowd a top the ladder. But, beware the looming Jack Stookes who requires two more dismissals to qualify, and is presently well, well ahead. I say we should get the NSCA to ban him.
Anyways, enjoy the statistics, as usual, excellently done and hours of entertainment in there.
Teams for this weekend are below. AR plays its last game at Pig Park after a long affair. B Grade play top of the table West Pymble in a must win game. C Grade up against Mac Uni, a top 4 clash – well done C Grade on a win last weekend whilst the rest of us were enjoying the air-conditioning.
Have a good weekend gents.
This weekend, the Pigs CC celebrates the achievements of Matthew Whitaker who will play his 150th game for the club becoming only the third man in history so to do. Matthew is probably most well known for his batting prowess and it was only recently that he relinquished the title of most Pig ducks (28). He now lies second. Whits, as he is often never called, or Wicketaker, as he is sometimes called in a very clever cricket play on words, was involved in the first ever game played by the Pigs CC. Involved is an understatement. Fearsome opening bowler, Tim Brech, was, as was to become a regular occurrence, late for the first ever game and the then captain James Madden sought another opening bowler to support the then feared Jeffrey Wong-See. The only other person to profess to being able to roll the arm over was our hero. That day, he took his first 5 wicket haul, assisted in a run out and celebrated our first win. Since then, he has taken another 20 five wicket bags. 4 ten wicket matches. Overall he has 400 wickets at a solid average of 14.69. With the bat, he has struck 1386 runs, 1346 of which were off the back foot. He has represented NSCA at various levels. He has taken 37 catches, dropped 45, most of which were in the first season where he spent the season catch-less, but, not drop-less.
Matt also introduced the Pigs to their first home drinking ground. The watering hole known as Gowrie Close where for many years, the entire team would adjourn into the small wee hours getting, well, plastered.
It is a great testament to his loyalty and competitiveness that Matt joins Rick De Rosa and Matthew Seldon in the 150 club. Still merely a young man, there is at least, another 150 in him, but, it is fair to say, that the first 150 have been played with excellence and ethos that makes a pig a Pig. Congratulations and we as a club recognise Matthew Whitaker.
Pigs will be entering 2 teams into the NSCA competition this year. Grades are unconfirmed. Click the links to check the stats.
You will notice that Mr Justin Fabo is making a long awaited return to the Pigs CC. Welcome back Justin.
Anybody paying any attention will have seen changes to the banner and colours recently – probably noticed them 2 seconds before you started reading this post. There’s a small number of things what require tinkering but now all the “hard” stuff has been done. It’s up and ready to use.
For those who wish to upload photos throughout the season you can do so at our photo site. You can create an account and upload photo’s individually. If you have so many pics that uploading them individually seems painful send them in a zip file to me (Barcs) or Brad and we can upload them to the site.
